Paul Hordiychuk, a Ukrainian-Canadian, arrives in Ukraine as an instructor for the “Ukrainian Sheriff” program. The unexpected death of a colleague forces Paul not only to stay after his contract expires, but also to become the chief district officer of the Carpathian town of Nagura.

Pedantic and honest, the Canadian, accustomed to following rules and laws, clashes with the realities of Ukrainian border life, where illegal logging, smuggling, illegal migration flourish, and criminals go unpunished.
